Human Trafficking – The Illegal Human Trade
Human trafficking is a modern day form of slavery and it is illegal. Usually, human trafficking is done for the purpose of sexual exploitation or forced labor. Just like any other illegal trade, human trafficking is a growing illegal industry and is operated worldwide by underground organized crime groups.
Human trafficking is rampant in the poor countries where majority of the people seek to earn a living overseas. Human traffickers will deceive the people of good paying jobs. Oftentimes, people are forced, coerced, or abducted and brought to a foreign land to work as slaves. The victims are commonly transported without legal papers.
Human trafficking and people smuggling are oftentimes thought to be the same. Although both are considered illegal activities, people smuggling is often committed when a person willingly submits himself to be transported to one location to another. However, the transport is considered illegal for legal entry would be denied upon the arrival at the destination country. When a person arrives to his destination he is usually on his own and not forced to any labor.
On the other hand, human trafficking may or may not involve any travel. As long a person or persons are exploited and forced to a labor, it is considered human trafficking. People who are subjected to human trafficking do not have their own free will. They will do as they are told to do and oftentimes women are forced to become sex workers. Human trafficking is a very lucrative illegal industry and authorities must do something to stop this trade.
